Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how CHESS REV (the "App") collects, uses, stores, and discloses information when you use the App installed from Google Play (Android) or the App Store (iOS).

Summary

  • The App stores games, analysis, and settings locally on your device. No personal data is uploaded to our servers by default.
  • The App integrates Google Mobile Ads (AdMob) to show ads. AdMob may collect device identifiers and usage data for ad serving and personalization.
  • If you link an external account (e.g., Lichess or Chess.com) the App stores the account info and any OAuth token you provide locally to fetch your games.
  • The App may request Camera and Photo Library permissions if you use features that capture or import board images.

What Information the App Collects

1. Data You Provide Directly

  • Account linking: If you choose to link your Lichess or Chess.com account, the App stores the account identifier and any OAuth token locally (in SharedPreferences) to fetch your games and allow in-app access. Tokens are stored on-device and are not transmitted to any App-owned server.
  • Import/Export: When you import a PGN or paste data into the App, that data is stored locally (SQLite) and may be included in backups you create.

2. Automatically Collected Data (Third-Party SDKs)

  • Ads: The App uses Google Mobile Ads (AdMob). AdMob may collect device identifiers (Advertising ID), IP address, device model, OS version, and usage signals to serve ads. Ads are requested as non-personalized by default. See Google's privacy information and Google Ads policies.

3. Device Permissions

  • INTERNET: Required to fetch games from external services and to load ads.
  • CAMERA / Photo Library: Requested only when you use features that capture or import board photos for analysis.
  • POST_NOTIFICATIONS: Used for local notifications about review progress; the App does not send push notifications via a remote server.

4. Local Storage

  • The App stores settings and small state in SharedPreferences (Android/iOS), and game + analysis data in a local SQLite database.
  • Files created by the App (PGN exports, backups) are written to the app's documents directory.

How We Use Information

  • Provide core functionality: fetch and display your linked games, compute move analysis and estimated ratings, and let you review games offline.
  • Store user preferences and progress locally (puzzle progress, review state, unlocked features).
  • Show advertisements using AdMob. Ads enable the App to remain free.
  • Allow you to export/import games and backups under your control.

Data Sharing and Third Parties

  • Lichess / Chess.com: When you link accounts or request imports, the App fetches content from those services. Please review their privacy policies: Lichess, Chess.com.
  • Google / AdMob: AdMob acts as a third-party data controller for ads. See Google Ads privacy.
  • No App-owned servers: The App does not upload your games, analysis, or tokens to any server controlled by the developer.

Data Retention and Deletion

  • Local data (games, analysis, settings) remain on your device until you delete them, clear the app data, or uninstall the App.
  • You can remove linked accounts from the App — the unlink action removes the saved token and account reference from local storage.
  • Backups you create are stored as files in your app documents directory; you control their subsequent sharing or deletion.

Security

Tokens and data are stored locally in standard app storage (SharedPreferences and app documents / SQLite). No special server-side security is used because the App does not send data to a developer server by default.

Children

The App is not targeted to children under 13. If you are a parent and believe your child has provided personal information without consent, contact us at the email below.

Your Rights (GDPR / CCPA)

  • Access: Your data is stored locally on your device.
  • Deletion: You can remove games, clear review data, and unlink accounts inside the App. To delete all local data, uninstall the App or use the in-app clear/reset features.
  • Opt-out of personalized ads: Ad preferences are managed by Google — see Ad Settings for personalization controls.

Changes to This Policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The effective date at the top will indicate when the policy was last updated.
